Kate has led communications strategy for Kickstarter, the Center for Reproductive Rights, and former NYC First Lady Chirlane McCray. She has also consulted for numerous nonprofits, law firms, and thought leaders to take their communications and media visibility to the next level.

• Created and led the coordinated #StoptheSham communications campaign for the Center for Reproductive Rights’ historic 2016 Supreme Court victory for abortion access in the landmark case, Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt.

• Drove communications strategy for Kickstarter’s rollout as one of the first US companies to pilot a 4-day week, placing features in The Atlantic, Fast Company, CNBC, NBC Nightly News, NBC’s Today Show, and CNN’s Risk Takers List.

• Developed proactive communications strategy for the women-led law firm, Levin Simes Abrams, in the ongoing litigation on behalf of sexual assault survivors against rideshare company, Lyft, resulting in coverage across CNN, CBS This Morning, VICE, New York Magazine, Teen Vogue, and Daily Beast.

• Wrote a popular guide for The Creative Independent coaching creators and creatives on how to get press attention for their work.

Since March 2024, Kate has served as interim president of Rewire News Group, overseeing daily operations for the $2 million nonprofit media organization. Her work at RNG has included:

• Fundraising $200K in transitional support for interim costs and staff retention bonuses.

• Leading team culture and feedback trainings, revamping internal project management, and streamlining editorial processes.

• Supporting the onboarding of the incoming Executive Director, assisting with 2024 year-end fundraising campaign and leading 2025 budget planning.

Kate’s specialized expertise in crisis communications has enabled her to shape meaningful narratives and help brands and executives navigate sticky and potentially reputation-damaging circumstances with delicate and authentic messaging.

• Managed crisis communications for Kickstarter’s leadership team through two CEO transitions, the industry’s first-ever union drive, and high-profile layoffs during the height of the 2020 pandemic.

• Led the Center for Reproductive Rights’ response to U.S. Supreme Court anti-choice appointee Neil Gorsuch.

• Oversaw communications strategy for NYC First Lady Chirlane McCray and served on NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio’s senior communications team, specifically building communications strategy through contentious budget negotiations, City Council hearings, and opposition attacks.

• Drafted and placed op-ed in Refinery29 by the NYC First Lady after her personal story was misused in conservative media during the height of the #MeToo movement.

Kate has two decades of experience elevating the work of industry thought-leaders, government officials, CEOs, and national advocates.

• Secured front-page New York Times profile of First Lady McCray and coveted feature in TIME’s first-ever list of 50 Most Influential People in Health Care, as well as high-level speaking roles at events including Women In The World, Teen Vogue Summit, and Social Good Summit.

• Landed national features for Kickstarter CEO Aziz Hasan as one of the first U.S. CEOs to implement a four-day week in Fast Company, NBC’s Today Show, and Cheddar News.

• Wrote, pitched, and placed a national op-ed in The Washington Post, co-bylined by the presidents of the Center for Reproductive Rights and Lambda Legal.

• Established the Center’s CEO as a regular guest on top news programs, including NBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show, secured other key spokespeople on Sunday shows including ABC’s This Week with George Stephanopoulos, and a feature profile in Glamour.

At her very core, Kate is a writer. Whether it’s ghostwriting op-eds for national thought leaders, helping rework your professional bio, or publishing her own essays, Kate knows how to write for the outlet and the audience.

• Supported Pregnancy Justice in writing and placing local op-eds in NJ.com and AL.com, shining a light on how pregnant women are targeted with prosecution and investigation simply because they are pregnant.

• Wrote and placed op-eds for CEOs and top officials in The Washington Post, Refinery29, and Fast Company.

• Annual report writing for Kickstarter and Whole Woman’s Health Alliance.

Kate has been sharing her lived experience with fatphobia and fat acceptance, mental health, and navigating personal relationships as a fat woman for nearly a decade. Through this work, she aims to normalize body acceptance, particularly for people in larger bodies, and combat dangerous fatphobia that remains pervasive in our society and across our institutions.

• Served as a regular contributor to NBC on topics including the backlash Krispie Kreme received after offering free donuts for COVID-19 vaccinations, the return of the Biggest Loser, and how fat folks face discrimination in the workplace.

• Wrote about trending topics including the controverstial drug ozempic for MSNBC and Martha Stewart’s swimsuit cover for Sports Illustrated for Bloomberg.

• Appeared on NBC’s The Today Show discussing fatphobia during the COVID-19 pandemic.

• Interviewed by Refinery29 about how workplace wellness programs can be discriminatory and triggering for staff in bigger bodies and employees with eating disorders.

Kate embraces the political and feminist roots of embroidery and textile art, creating work that rejects the deep-seated fatphobia of our culture and encourages as many people as possible to join in accepting fat bodies as worthy and wonderful. She carries on the tradition of her late grandmother who was a factory seamstress.
